Survival mode

Hurricane Andrew has hit. Andy is 3 weeks old today. I feel like I’ve aged 3 years. Where did my happy (and sleepy) newborn go??
It is a real effort to simply survive right now. This reflux stuff is no joke. If Andy is awake, he is eating or crying. Wouldn’t be too bad if he slept well but 5 minute cat naps are his specialty. The best napping we get is when he sleeps on my chest… hardly a recipe for getting anything done. My shoulders have a permanent ache and I am constantly on edge with the increasing amounts of gagging and spitting up Andy is doing.
Thank God DH has 3 more weeks off. We were so spoiled with Brendan, lol. I maaaay have discovered a small solution, however. I had DH bring the glider out into the living room. I tried it out and the rocking seemed to soothe Andy very well. He is currently asleep in his bouncer. Fingers crossed it wasn’t a fluke. I may actually get to eat supper tonight.
He will turn happy one day, right?

  1. Hang in there, Jen. I haven’t dealt with reflux, but I have dealt with colic (which was no fun). I know you are tired. Love to you! You’re doing a great job!
    Love,
    Aimee

  2. Oh Jen! So sorry about the reflux and no sleeping! Jenkins had colic so I certainly understand your anxiety! With no sleep and being on edge – everything will drive you insane! Hang in there…..Hopefully you will all get a great nap in today!

  3. Isn’t it nice how babies sleep so much for the first two weeks, so you can recover a bit from the birth. Then they “wake up” and the fun begins! But seriously, it should start to get easier here in a few more weeks.
Do you have a sling? I found that with my Maya Wrap I could sling the wee one right on my chest in an upright position. He didn’t have reflux, but he was a lot happier there.
Also – are you consuming any caffeine? Even chocolate. Cut it out for a few days and see if that helps with the sleeping. Just a thought.

  4. Where are you? hoping that since the little “hurricane” has made it past the one month mark, that things are going more smoothly. Thinking of you!!! hugs!!
