Spooky Math Game

I bought a book of spooky math games and we played one today. Brendan loved it! I thought I’d share it…
“Spider Legs”
Each player draws a spider body and head on a piece of paper (no legs).
Each turn: Roll 3 (or you can play with 4) dice and add and/or subtract (can also multiply and/or divide) the numbers any way you can to attempt to equal 8.
Ex. a roll of 1, 1, 4 and 4 could be made into 8 with “4+4+1-1=8”
Each roll that can make an 8 lets the person draw a spider leg on their picture. Winner is the first person to draw a full 8 legged spider.

Homeschool update

Bren is spending a day on each of the 50 states. We have the Time For Learning book. I got it from Amazon. Each state has 1-3 pages on it of interesting history and facts with lots of pictures. We look on the map of the back to find where the state is and where/ what the capital is. He has a blank map of the US and adds the new state. Then we look up the state bird and flowers online. I made him a workbook with pictures of these ready to color and he also has to write the state name, flower and bird on the lines provided. The last thing is one sentence about something interesting he learned about the state. It’s been going well!
In math he is doing subtraction problems like 668-284 and “Joy planned a 325 mile trip. The first day she traveled 185 miles. How far did she have left to travel?”
and
learning words like first and 1st, the months of the year in order, days of the week in order (thank you youtube songs!) and also reviewing tally marks.
In science he just finished weather and now is moving onto how the sun makes day/night and the seasons.
He’s still practicing printing though he is much better when he wants to be. Occassionally he works in a grammar or maps workbook or writes in his journal or does a “finish the picture” page. He finished one recently that was a cat looking out of an empty window and he drew a skating park. LOL.
In reading, he is midway through Hooked on Phonics: Master Reader. Each day’s reading card is sooo interesting. The books are really good too. There are four “strange museum” book interspersed throughout… so he does 10 lessons, then a book- total 40 lessons and 4 books.
Things are going great! It is amazing how many people support us!

So… 8 weeks exactly today! Happy 31 weeks to me! Bren’s party in in a couple weeks so we are doing some spring cleaning around the house and yardwork. Nothing exciting.
Bren and I also have some issues with allergies. Apparently oak and tree stuff is really high right now.
Andy and Bren are loving a game we downloaded on the Wii called Pokemon Rumble. Best $15 we’ve spent in a looong time. They are human Pokedexes. Haha.
Andy is also fascinated with our new baby swing. Frankly, so am I. It’s the Graco Sweetpeace. I love how it also fits the infant car seat!!!

2 months to go!

Here it is March 24th… 2 months to go exactly! I scheduled the c-section yesterday… 12:30 pm on Monday, May 24th!
30w1d OB appt went well yesterday. Dr G was apparently on her 3rd delivery in a row so I saw the NP again. No weight gain but that’s fine. BP was slightly higher than it has been but okay. Trace of protein in my urine again. I measured 1 week ahead, like always. Iron slightly low so she had me go buy “Slow FE” iron pills yesterday. Whole appt was very fast so I snuck off to see the newborns. They are so precious!!! And so small! And I amazed myself by finding the nusery on my own in that maze! Haha.
Now that I know my delivery date, I counted up the appts I have left… only 5! 32 wks, 34 wks, 36 wks, 37 wks and 38 wks. WOW! I can’t shake the feeling that something is going to happen earlier though… contractions that need to be stopped or I’ll go into labor or my water will break… something. Haha. DH says please, no. 😉
Working on painting the boys’ new Garfield room and still have the nursery letters to paint and a quilt or blanket to buy for the full size bed in there.

Bren-bits & Andy-dotes

1/1 Current cartoon favorite- Garfield & Friends. 😀 Gonna have to make a lasagna.
1/10 Brendan’s clothes fit on adult hangers… waaaah! 😉 Who knew 3 happy meal chipmunks could make 2 kids so happy?
1/11 THAT kind of day…
Learning about digestion (and words like feces & saliva & rectum),
combined with reading “The Emperor’s New Clothes.”
Hmmm… hahahaha!
1/13 Made lasagna… it was fabulous! I didn’t know I was making it wrong all my life! You gotta make a cheese sauce with eggs!
1/14 The beginning of the Kumon “Let’s Cut Paper” book is perfect for 3 1/2 year old Andy! The tracing one is great too!
1/17 20w6d. First baby jam session!!! She was bopping away in there! Even Darrell felt one tiny pop!
1/19 Brendan and I were reading a book that has pictures of everyday things with both the names of it in spanish and english.
I was asking Andy the english and Brendan the spanish.
So we got to body parts and I patted my chest and asked Andy what it was…
He said “neck.” I said no, neck is up here and I pointed to my neck. What’s this?
And he said “Baby girl.” Awwww……
2/20- First time I pulled up my shirt and *watched* tiny pops over and over come from my belly! I ususally feel movement low down but this time it was more than 2 inches above my belly button!
2/21 I sent Andy off to the potty before bedtime while I was brushing my teeth and he came back pantsless. I handed him a water bottle cap I found on the floor and gave it to him to put in the recycle. He scampers off and comes back- “Hey, Mom! Look at me! I have a cap on my penis!” Sure enough he had managed to keep it stuck on the end! I started off admonishing him but it turned into laughing followed by “go show dad”… hahaha!
Also, we were sitting in a hamburger joint with some friends of ours and had sent the kids off to play video games. Andy comes back, sits in the chair across from me, waggles his eyebrows and blinks in a cute way he does and says “How ya doing, Sweetie Pies?” Hahaha.
3/5 Andy woke me up this morning saying he had an “imagination”. He was swimming underwater. I asked him if it was fun or scary. He said scary. He was under the water with the sharks and whales and I was calling to him from the beach. I guess he took over my drowning nightmare for the night, har har.
3/6 27w6d… got to “Wow, you’re rotund” from DH. YAY! I look pregnant!
3/16 Brendan’s Dream Foods:
Chips with cheese dip
nachos
Chicago style pizza
peperoni pizza
sausage pizza
lemonade
enchilada with enchilada sauce
soft taco with beans and cheese
3/22 “Where is my pencil? Sigh… we’re going to have to start going to Pennsylvania!” LOL

3rd trimester!!

28 weeks!!!! Happy 3rd trimester to me! 11 weeks to go!
The nursery is very nearly ready. The design I am working on for the wall is really simple this time.
The night before last, baby was going CRAZY inside me. Prior to this, DH has felt her move maybe once since she likes to kick straight down… so I called the gang over. Darrell and Brendan felt her! It was such a sweet moment. I am sure Andy will feel her soon. He is so sweet. He kisses my belly and has learned from DH to talk and sing into my belly button to her, haha.
***I can’t wait!!!***

The boys got a goodie box from Grandma… caps, truck, slim jims and other stuff…

Test results

LOL!!! I passed the 1 hour glucose test!!! Hahahahaha! Never done that before! I had an inkling though because it was the first time I didn’t get sick from it!
CBC blood panel came back fine too.
27 weeks today. 84 days til c-section and I get to meet my baby girl!!!
